is a group of words that
has a subject and a
predicate and expresses a
complete thought.
4 Kinds of
Sentences
according to
Structure
Simple Sentence
(S+V)
- It is composed of
single independent
clause. It consists of one
or more subjects and
one or more verbs.
Examples
One subject and one The bird built a nest made of
verb twigs and leaves for its
young.
One subject and two The actress cried and
verbs laughed at the same time.
Two subjects and Pam and Tony were given
one verb. awards by the principal.
Compound Sentence
(I+I)
- It has two or
more independent
clauses.
Compound Sentence
- These independent
clauses may be connected
by coordinating
conjunctions.

Compound Sentence
- It does not
have any
dependent
clause.
Compound Sentence
- The coordinating
conjunctions are
written after a
comma.
Compound Sentence Example:

(I+D)
- has only one
independent
clause and one or
more dependent
clauses.

The independent clause is

using subordinating
conjunctions.
Complex Sentence Example:
He went abroad

has two or more
independent clauses and
one or more dependent
