PRESIDENT HOOVER AND
THE FDR
• The difference between President Hoover and
FDR is that people did not believe in Hoover as
he was known for not doing enough to help with
the Great depression. Although with FDR, he was
known for being a reform-minded leader, and he
would work to combat problems like poverty and
unemployment.

THE NEW DEAL

• The new deal was established in order to involve the


government in the economy and create relief for the
needy (lower class), economic recovery and financial
reform. There was a period where congress passed 15
amendments called the “Hundred Days” in order to
create economic recovery.
THE NEW DEAL AND THE STOCK MARKET

One reform aimed at regulating the stock market


was the 1933’s Securities Act which expanded the
regulations of Wall Street. This act also led to the
creation of the Securities and Exchange
Commission.
THE NEW DEAL AND THE BANKING INDUSTRY
SEC: Securities and Exchange Commission (1934)
- Monitors stock market and enforces laws regarding the sales of stocks and bonds
FDIC: Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
- Reassures individual depositors that their savings are protected against loss in the
event of a bank failure
Gave people hope and helped them regain a sense of dignity
RELIEVING PRESSURE OF THE GREAT
DEPRESSION
• FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Company) 1933. It protected bank deposits
up to $5000/
• AAA (Agriculture Adjustment Administration) 1933. It aided farmers and
regulated crop production.
• CCC (Civilian Conservation Crops) 1933. It provided jobs for single males on
conservation projects.
