Founding of Katipunan • On July 7, 1892, the newspapers published the news about the arrest of Rizal the previous night and the governor-general’s order to banish him to Dapitan in Mindanao. • Bonifacio along with the other Filipino patriots Plata, Diwa, Diaz, Arellano, and Dizon, met at a house on Azcarraga Street, Manila (now Claro M. Recto). • Established a secret brotherhood organization, went under the name Kataas-taasang, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng̃ mg̃á Anak ng̃ Bayan (Supreme and Venerable Society of the Children of the Nation). • They names Rizal as their honorary president without his knowledge.
