 As has been stated earlier,
Kent gives more importance
to generals.
 Therefore the general
symptoms in the case should
be found out in the first
instance and written
separately under mental and
physical, followed by
particulars
www.similima.com 2
 Regarding mental symptoms,
Kent warns: “Mental symptoms
are very important but some of
these are found in so many
remedies that they are very
common, such as weeping,
irritability, anger, etc. Hence,
these are not best to begin with
… or the result would be so
cumbersome that repertory work
would not be practical.
 www.similima.com 3
 Mental symptoms, which are
specified by certain factors like
agg., amel., ailments from, or
associated with, are more
important than too general
symptoms for repertorization.
 Margaret Tyler has designated
these specified mentals as high
grade or qualified mentals as
against common mentals.
www.similima.com 4
 The same qualification of
symptoms holds good in respect
of physical and particulars.
 The qualified symptoms not only
help to individualize the person,
but also narrow down the field of
choice.

www.similima.com 5
 According to Dr. Kent, the totality
should be arranged as follows:
 Mental–Emotion …….Will

Intellect …….Understanding
Memory
Ailments from
Agg. and amel.
Any other qualified symptoms

www.similima.com 6
 Physical - Generals
– Ailments from, agg. and amel
– Symptoms related to sex, appetite,
desire and aversion to food,
weather, positions etc.
–Special senses.
 Particulars- peculiar and
characteristics or qualified.

www.similima.com 7
 All cases should be worked out
according to the above
hierarchy. But
–Where mental are lacking, physical
generals and characteristic
particulars will make the totality.
–Where generals are lacking, the
cases can be repertorized by the
use of Kent’s repertory taking
characteristic particulars only.

ANAMNESIS OF CASE
 Anamnesis – Dictionary Meaning
The case history of a medical
patient as recalled by the
patient.
The ability to recall past
occurrences.
 Anamnesis in homoeopathy is a
complete logical study, which
includes identification,
determination and individualized
examination of the patient or
sick. www.similima.com 9
 It includes all the information gained
from patient, his family and narrators
regarding previous life, past history.
 For assessing his singularity in contrast
to other patient suffering from the
same disease. Anamnesis can be found
by collecting data concerning patient,
his family, previous environment and
experiences including any abnormal
sensations, moods or acts observed by
the patient himself or by other, or their
appearance and duration , as well as
any result of treatment.
www.similima.com 10
 Anamnesis expresses, itself in various
kind of alterations of spirit, alteration
of psychic symptoms apparently,
alteration of bodily structures examined
in the laboratory.
 First of all the image of Psora should be
studied from all the symptoms that we
can gather, next we have to make out a
similar anamnesis of Syphilis, which
can be done from books, from clinics,
from observations and all other
possible sources, and then an
anamnesis has to be made of Sycosis.
www.similima.com 11
 There are things most generals and will
bring before the mind, in one, two or
three images a grand picture of all the
chronic diseases of the human race.
 It is the study of combined totality of
common features of disease and
uncommon individual characteristics of
the person. And then evaluation of this
totality with stress on those features,
which denote the uncommon aspect of
this common totality thus, assessing
the patient’s singularity in contrast to
other patient’s sufferings from the
same disease. www.similima.com 12
 In anamnesis the more striking,
singular, uncommon and peculiar
signs/symptoms of the case of disease
are chiefly and most solely to be kept in
view.
 The case of the patient is taken and his
uncommon symptoms are separated
from the common symptoms of his
diseases. Any symptom or any
abnormality anywhere in the body is
considered relevant arriving at an
anamnesis.

IMPORTANCE OF ANAMNESIS
 Individualization of the patient: as
the past, family medical history is to
be taken with a definite view to find
out the individual characteristics.
Kent says medical history of the
patient is to be taken so that we can
get the individualizing features of the
patient.
 With the help of anamnesis we can
find out what is uncommon, PQRS in
the patient over and above the
common features of the disease.
www.similima.com 14
 Anamnesis is done for prescribing a
medicine, which is most similar to the
uncommon symptom of the patient.
 General symptoms are considered as
the backbone of the anamnesis.
 Subjective symptoms like, fear, hatred,
sensations are important for
anamnesis.
 Anamnesis is more applicable to the
development of chronic diseases from
the time of exposure, suppression
primary manifestation and various
treatments done from time to time.
www.similima.com 15
 Anamnesis of psora, syphilis, and
sycosis is to be done in cases whenever
applicable.
 Anamnesis of acute disease is equally
important for the selection of individual
nosodes.
 Anamnesis studies the uncommon
aspect of the diseased person and leads
the way to treat a patient by enhancing
his immunity, the fighting power of his
body against disease.
 Thus Anamnesis has greater possibility
and certainty in achieving the ultimate
object of successful treatment.
www.similima.com 16
 Though anamnesis is very important
in all cases, it has got a special
significance in the following
conditions.
1. Acute cases of fast changing symptoms,
especially marked with stages, like
intermittent fever.
2. Alternating diseases.
3. Chronic diseases which begins after an
acute attack of illness .
4. Chronic diseases with periodic, acute
exacerbations.
5. Familial dispositions to the recurrence of a
certain form of disease at a certain period.
