Transportation

Transportation is one of the daily needs in life and in the process of national
development. Carrying People, animals or goods from a place to another is called
Transportation. We can't walk long distance on foot, nor can we carry heavy loads
so, buses, vans, trains, etc are used for these purposes. Other developments too
depend on the development of transportation. If we need or have to build
education, health or any of those kinds of services for people, we will need road
and tractors, or trucks to carry the minerals and materials we need. Humans are
an social animal, we have social relations with other people who might live far
from us. Our family maybe doing jobs in an distant place so, to come home they
need the means of transportation. Wheelbarrows, Horses, yaks, elephants,
donkeys, rickshaws are slow means of transportation while Motorcycles, zeeps,
cars, trains, ships, etc are fast means of transportation.
Advantages and
disadvantages
Transportation has helped the world a lot. It
has helped to grow friendliness with other
countries, Internal trade and oversea trades.
Our life has become easier. But OfCourse,
with all these advantages there are also
disadvantages of transportation. Means of
transportations like airplanes and rockets are
used to drop bombs and grenades during
wars, destroying cities and village and killing
innocent civilians. Similarly, many people are
killed or injured when heavy accidents occur
because of some means of transportation.
Like car accidents, airplane crashes, etc.
There are different types of
transportations used in the world
and they are :-
•Roadways
Types of •Airways

Transportation •Waterways
•Railways
•Ropeways
Roadways
• A mean of transport in which vehicles
like buses, bikes,
cars, trucks,etc transport humans,
animals, and goods from one place to
another by the help of roads are called
roadways.
• Prithvi Highway, Karnali Highway,
Araniko Highway, B.P. Highway,
Mahendra Highway etc are also some
examples of Roadways/High ways.
• Buses, Trucks, Cars, Rickshaws, scooters
etc are some examples of the vehicles
which run on Roadways or Highways.
• Domastic Animals like Horses, Donkeys,
Oxes, Camels, Buffelos etc are also used
in Roadways for transportation.
Airways
•A mean of transportation in which vehicles
like Helicopters, Airplanes, etc transport
humans, animals, and goods from one
place to another by Air is called Airway.
•Air Transportation or Airways were
established in our country since 1963 AD.
•Means of Transportation vehicles like
Airplanes and Helicoptors are used to
Transport Goods, Humans and Animals by
Air. Thus, they are some examples of
Airways.
•Nepal Airlines corpariation, Royal
Nepal Airlines Corpariation, Yeti Airlines,
Buddha Airlines, etc are some examples of
Airlines.
Waterways
• A Waterway is an Body of water that can be
used as a mean of transportation. These include
Rivers, lakes, Oceans, Canals, etc. They must be
wide and deep enough for boats and
submarines or have no waterfalls or rapids. Or
have ways for boats to get around them.
Waterways is one of the cheaper way of
transportation. It is the easiest way of
transportation trough water resources.
• Despite of having many water resources, Nepal
has no reliable waterways. Our rivers mostly
flow down steep slopes so, they are not suitable
for transport. We have no access to seas or
oceans. Thus, Nepal is Laking in waterways.
• Ships, submarines, boats, hovercrafts, etc are
some       examples of vehicles that are used in
water        ways.
Railways
•A mean of transportation in which Trains or
Railway/Train tracks are used to transport
goods, animals, or humans is called Railway.
• Because there are hills and mountains in most
parts of Nepal, Railway service is very limited.
The only operative railway in Nepal is Janakpur-
Jaynagar railway connecting Bijalpura with
Jaynagar in India. Although it covers 53 km, there
service is not very good. But, there has been
much work underway for expanding railway
services in the mid-terai region. There was
another railway running from Amlekhguni to
Raxaul in India Although this work has been
discontinued, people are still developing railways
in Nepal.
•In different countries there are underground
railways which are called 'subways'.
Ropeways
• Ropeways are useful for areas that are
located near mountains or on mountains.
Ropeways in Nepal which mainly consists of
aerial ropeways, are used to transport
people and goods. There are two Cabble
cars currently operating in our country. The
first one Operative from Kurintar in Chitwan
district to the famous Manakamna temple in
Gorkha District. Its called Manakamna cable
car and is 3.1km.The second one is called
Chandragiri cable car. It runs from Thankot
to Chandragiri hills. The earlier forms of
ropeways runs from Hetauda to Kathmandu.
It covers a distance of 42km.
