• if we had to define the concept of logistics with one word, the most appropriate would be "supply". The word logistics is a term whose origin is military, and in its first definition included the supply of ammunition and weapons. This supply required, in the case of combat, a series of skills and strategies that justified the appearance of the term "logistics". • To understand the appearance of this meaning we must go to ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. At that time, the ‘Logistikas’ were the military officers in charge of supplying the army. Furthermore, the term ‘Logistikos’ can be translated as “he who knows how to calculate”. We can deduce thanks to the terminology used the importance that was given to these people and how important their preparation and mathematical knowledge were. • Because we understand logistics as all the work of supplying and distributing goods, we can affirm that logistics has existed since the dawn of time: when our ancestors needed to store food in caves, they used logistics, however rudimentary, until become what we know now and play a fundamental role in both domestic shipments and international transport of goods.
