 It is unpredictable ; sometime successful; sometime unsuccessful

 All these method are often untested and unscientific

 In an organization , the rule of thumb can be seen as ‘the direction of the


manager’

 Emphasis is on scientific decision making based on cause and effect and


the scientific measurement of the method
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC
MANAGEMENT
 It replace traditional concept of management .

 It can be define as” application of science for each and every activity of
management” .

 Management is not only longer limited to a general knowledge based on


traditional , assumption, trial and error and effort, but has been established as a
science based on organized and systematic use.

 It concentrates on determination of specific objective and selection of best


course of action for achievement of predetermined objective.

 Frederick Winslow Taylor, is know as the founder of the scientific management


movement.

 According to F.W.Taylor “scientific management means knowing exactly what


you want men to do and seeing that they do it in the best and the cheapest way

 It has four factor to achieve goal in defined time

 observation:
 Involves systematically watching and recording what people say
and do.
 Manager develop a system, procedure, and good working
environment for the completion of work in proper time
 Felling of responsibility among the workers

 measurement :
 It compare the actual achievement of work with that of planned
work
 Supportive to take right decision at right time to remove if any
deficiency is found in actual performance
 Experimentation
 It gives emphasis on experiment and research to solve the problem in different
situation
 It helps to keep management system up to date
 Experiment and research on each activity of performance is necessary

 Interference
 It takes the corrective measure
 When the actual performance achieved is not in accordance of standard
performance , management analyzes the deficiency in actual performance

of the manager in certain sector of the management for the
scientific solution of the problem
