It is used to:

 Must – Express obligation

HAVE TO
It is used to:
To talk about external obligation now, in the future, or generally

 I have to study for a test tonight.


 She has to finish the report by 5pm.

 You have to be quiet in the library.


 We have to wear the seatbelt when we drive a car.

It is used to:

To talk about something that is not necessary to do.

 I don´t have to tidy my room because I did it yesterday.


 My sister doesn´t have to go to the supermarket to buy
some rice, there is some in the cabinet.
CAN – CAN’ T
It is used to:

 Express ability / inability in the present


Exº They can / can’t run very fast.

 Ask / give / refuse permission

COULD – COULDN’ T

It is used to:

 Express ability / inability in the past


Exº They could / couldn’t bark very loud when they were puppies.
 Ask permission politely/Make polite requests
Exº Could I sit on your lap, please?
Exº Could I have some more food, please?
