STUDENTS

In troduction

• Homesickness refers to the commonly experience state of distress among those


who have left their house or home and find themselves in a new unfamiliar
environment.
• Homesickness is characterized by recurrent cognitions focused on home (e.g.
parents, house, loved ones, home cooking, family and pet).
• The risk factors for homesickness fall into 4 categories: experience, personality,
family, and attitude.
• Almost all children adolescents (e.g.-: University & College students) experience
some degree of homesickness when they are apart from familiar people and
environment.
Literature Review
• Home sickness is defined as the distress caused by separation
from home
• Social connectivity reduces levels of stress, improved self-worth
and confidence and due to that effect of homesickness is
implemented to a large extent.
• From the review of literature, it is evident that homesickness
may linked with academic integration, social integration, cell
phone addiction as some of the main factors.
Metho dology

•1 year students from faculty of Applied Sciences were chosen to represent the
st

whole group of university students.


• Questionnaires were chosen for this research because they are a reliable and
quick method to collect information from multiple respondents in an efficient
and timely manner.
• The questionnaire was distributed and completed in the course of 4 weeks.
• The interviews were conducted directly/ over the phone depending on the
preferences of the participant.
• The interviews were also completed within 4 weeks.
• The results of the questionnaire and interviews were analyzed manually,
because of the small number of respondents.

C onclusion

• According to the results, a feeling of separation from family


is a normal phenomenon experienced by the majority of
university freshmen who lives away from home.
• Although the majority experience less than a moderate
degree of suffering, a small proportion of students report
severe homesick distress.
• Female students reported a significantly higher degree of
homesick separation.
Suggestions and recommendations

• Some of the suggestions & recommendations were


evaluated through the questionnaire
• Conducting awareness programs before starting
academics
• Introducing special councilors to the faculties
• Doing extra- curricular activities
are recommended to prevent homesickness
