Developing or cumulus stage

-begins with the upward growth of a cumul

us cloud due to the continuous updraft and
supply of moisture. Latent heat (heat given
off) from the condensation of moisture war
ms the surrounding air and promotes the fu
rther rising of air and moisture. The cumulu
s cloud grows further with domes and tower
s and transform into a mushroom - shaped c
umulonimbus cloud.
Mature stage
The mature stage is indicated by the initiation of stro
ng downward current of air (downdraft) and by preci
pitation. The thunderstorm keeps on growing until it
reaches the tropopause which separates the troposp
here from the stratosphere. Updraft continue to cre
ate clouds sideways to form an anvil - like formation.
This stage, which usually lasts for 10-20 minutes, (bu
t can even last up to an hour or so) produces heavy r
ain, frequent lighting and thunder, tropical cyclones,
and occasionally hail.
Final or dissipating stage
The final or dissipating stage is when the updraft
s are prevented by the cool air of the dominant d
owndrafts in the lower portions of the cloud. Bec
ause of the diminishing supply of moisture supp
osedly brought by updrafts, the thunderstorm w
eakens, rainfall decrease, and the clouds dissipat
e. This stage lasts less than a hour and usually ca
uses very animal damage. However, some thund
erstorms may continue to produce strong winds
and lightning.
Lightning
Electrical charges within the thunderstorm cloud sep
arate during its development, with the positive charg
es gathering at the top and the negative charges at th
e bottom. Lightning is the abrupt natural, visible hig
h-voltage electrical discharge which takes place when
positive and negative charges join within a cloud, bet
ween clouds, or between a cloud and the ground. It g
ives off a flash that lasts a few tenths of a second and
is always followed by thunder.
Lightning
Effects of lightni
ng strike to human
s
1.Lightning strike could directly
cause harm to people through c
ontact between the main lightn
ing channel or its branches and
the persons body or a conducto
r the person is touching.
2.A body hit by lightning will sh
ow various signs of trauma. Like
a gunshot a lightning strike caus
es both an exit and entrance wo
und, marking where the current
both entered and left the victim.
