Standard and Objectives
• Standard:
• 1. representing, relating, and operating on whole numbers, initially with sets of objects
• a. Demonstrate counting objects in a set; counting out a given number of objects; comparing sets or numerals;
and modeling simple joining and separating situations with sets of objects, and simple equations such as 3+4=7
• Objectives:
• Student will be able to solve basic addition problems adding up to a maximum of 10
• Students will be able to show work on how they got their answer.
• Student will be able to use unfix cubes properly in showing their work in a bar model form.
What is bar Modeling?

• Bar models are picture


or visual
representations of
problems that can be
used for things like
addition, subtraction,
and many other things
you will learn outside
of kindergarten.
How do I use a Bar Model in addition?
• Step 1: look at the math problem.
• Step2: see how many cubes you 8
Need by looking at the first number
• Step 3: Count out and build 6 cubes.
• Step 4: Check second number to
See how many cubes we are going to add
• Step 5: Add 2 cubes to the 6 you already have
• Step 6: Count how many cubes you have all
together to find the answer. 6+2=8
