• A category of artistic, musical, or literary composition characterized


by a particular style, form, or content

What is Fiction?

• It is literature created from the imagination.


• Things like: Mysteries, science fiction, romance, fantasy, chick lit, crime
thrillers are all fiction genres.

What is non Fiction

• Factual stories focused on actual events and people.


• Nonfiction includes: Autobiographies, biographies, advertisements, letters,
diaries, newspaper articles….

Genres of Fiction
1. Mystery – involves investigation of a crime, most often murders.

2. Horror – aims to frighten or disgust readers.

3. Fantasy – stories of the use of magic or supernatural things.

4. Science-Fiction- stories, or compositions which contain the right amount of science and fiction in
them.

5. Myths – stories based on legends, which have a deep meaning.

6. Fairy Tales – type of stories that features giants, elves, fairies, enchantments …

7. Legends – Semi – true story, which has been passed on from person to person.

8. Historical Fiction – the main setting of this type of story is mostly a historical place, but the story
being told is not based on facts.
