- is the simultaneous sounding of a group


of tones with a melody
- it is anything that accompanies melody

Chords
a group of four or more sounded
together

Triads
a group of only three notes
sounded together
The manner by which chords changes is
called chord progression.

The chord is called consonant chord, if its


produce a quality of repose or relaxation
While when it produces a quality of unrest or
tension, the chord is a dissonant chord.
Texture
the relationship of harmonic and
melodic factors in music.

monophonic, homophonic, and polyphonic


Monophonic
this is a melody without musical
accompaniment.
Example : Gregorian Chant: whistling a tune

Homophonic
is a melody accompanied by a chord or
a variation of chord.
Example: a singer accompanied by a guitar or piano ( bahay kubo)
Polyphonic texture
are two or more melodies that are
sounded together simultaneously.

Example : Ang bayan ko’y tanging ikaw

Descant
- a form of music in which one sings a
fixed melody with improvisation by another
singer.

- Ostinato is a short continually
recurring rhythmic or melody pattern, sung
over and over again.
