Study Less, Study Smart
Study Smarter!
Take (5 minute) breaks between 25-30 minute
periods of studying.
Create a study space within your dorm, home or
residence. You can train yourself to study!
Take time to discover the meaning behind a
concept!
› Don’t just re-read your notes. Read your textbook, do
some practice problems, or see your professor to
truly understand an idea.
Study Smarter!
Create, join, and utilize study groups
Try not to over-highlight your notes
› Highlight only the most important ideas
Recognizing vs. Recalling
› Just because you recognize a concept does not mean
you can recall the information behind it!
Adequate sleep is not a suggestion!
› It is mandatory for consolidation and memory
retention
Study Smarter!
Immediately after class, review, summarize, or
give depth to your notes
Ask the professor questions!
› Don’t just say, “I don’t get it.” Go into depth on what
you do not understand.
Teach someone else to reinforce what you know
Study Smarter!
SQ3R!
› Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review
Memorize facts using mnemonics
› Acronyms, coined sayings, interacting images, etc.
Happy Studying!
