NEW YORK
It is a Norwegian fir 80 years old, weighing 10 tons and was
adorned with a garland of colored lights in red, white and
green linked to a 8 km long cable. The tree will remain lit
daily between 17.30 and 23.30 until January 7, except for the
last day of the year when the 45,000 lights will always be on.
Atop the tree was installed, as every year since 2004, the
company created a shining star Swarovski encrusted with
25,000 crystals and having a diameter of 3 meters. Ignition
installations took place amidst extensive security measures that
were strengthened after the attacks of Paris and armed attack
killed 14 people in San Bernardino.
The event was held in the presence of
many artists and the Mayor, New York,
Bill de Blasio, who pressed the button.
They performed on the occasion of
Christmas carols or songs Brit artists
such as Sting, James Taylor American,
Italian Andrea Bocelli and Canadian
Michael Bublé.
In Roman mythology, Cupid, son of
Venus, the god of love, and the image is
associated with Valentine's Day. At birth,
Jupiter wanted to get rid of Cupid, but his
mother, Venus, hid it in the woods, where
he learned to use animal bow before him
used to bind human destiny.
Another curiosity about this day is the medieval era, when women
consumed foods considered "bizarre" Valentine's Day, because,
according to superstition, would have helped him dream of her future
husband.
