WHY IS IT A GOOD FIT?
I am interested in Marketing and UBC Sauder school of business is
ranked #1 for business & economics in Canada, meaning that I
would be receiving the best education possible. UBC also offers
plenty of diverse programs and courses which appeal to me. The
Vancouver campus is close to home so UBC would give me the
opportunity to gain independence by living on my own, as well as
still be close to family.

WHY IS IT A GOOD FIT?
The Bachelor of commerce program at UBC Sauder school of business is the perfect program
for me as it combines my passion for marketing with out side the box learning. There are
plenty of classes and programs that appeal to me as it provides the basics for a career in
business. The program also offers a study abroad program and other varied activities outside
the classroom so you can engage with classmates and others. I think the BCOM program will
be a great fit as there are plentiful opportunities to expand my learning both inside and
outside the classroom and even abroad which is an intriguing idea for me as I love traveling
and experiencing everything that the world has to offer. The program is built to be tailored to
you, which is very appealing to me. I always work better in group settings, so the programs
semi-project based learning will give me a great chance to bond with my peers and gain
group related experiences. I think the BCOM program will give me the best skills for my
career aspirations in business and marketing.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

THE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BCOM

PROGRAM AT THE SAUDER SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
ARE 30/31 CREDITS PER YEAR, OVER A 4 YEAR
PERIOD (YOU ARE ALLOWED 6 YEARS TO
COMPLETE IT). YOU ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO TAKE
5 COMMERCE CLASSES, 2 ECONOMICS CLASSES, 1
MATH CLASS, 1 ENGLISH CLASS AND THREE
CREDITS OF NON-COMMERCE ELECTIVES
COURSE OUTLINE I plan on taking these 5 commerce courses as they are all
very relevant to the BCOM program and they will provide
me with a basic level of business, management and ethics
knowledge. The two economics classes that I plan on
 COMM 101 - BUSINESS FUNDAMENTALS taking first year will give me a general understanding of
 COMM 186E - VALUES, ETHICS, AND COMMUNITY how the business world operates as well as important
 COMM 290 - INTRODUCTION TO QUANTITATIVE lessons on the financials of business, both in depth and on
DECISION MAKING a larger scale. Math 104 will be very beneficial to my
learning as the 104 strand of math is specially focused on
 COMM 291 - APPLICATION OF STATISTICS IN
commerce and social sciences. It will help with relevant
BUSINESS
basics of mathematics that will be advantageous for my
 COMM 292 - MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL other courses. WRDS 150B will prepare me for necessary
BEHAVIOUR skills in research and paper writing for other courses and
 ECON 101 - PRINCIPLES OF MICROECONOMICS even for future careers. I also chose chemistry as my
 ECON 102 - PRINCIPLES OF MACROECONOMICS elective as I have always had a passion for the sciences and
I like collaborating on projects and experiments, so CHEM
 MATH 104 - DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS WITH
101 would be right up my alley.
APPLICATIONS TO COMMERCE AND SOCIAL
SCIENCES
 WRDS 150B - WRITING AND RESEARCH IN THE
DISCIPLINES
 CHEM 101 – FOUNDATIONS OF CHEMISTRY
SCHOOLING PAYMENT PLAN
I have estimated that my first year of BCOM at the UBC Sauder school of business will cost
$5,507.00 in tuition, $1,400.00 in books and supplies, $1,907.55 in student fees and $14,352.00
in total living fees, therefore my first year of schooling will cost roughly $23,166.55. UBC offers
a few scholarships of their own, such as the Presidential scholars award, the Schulich Leader
scholarship, the UBC Centennial scholars entrance award, etc., with some providing up to
$80,000 in renewable awards payable over four years. As well, Brookwood secondary school
provides scholarships to students such as the Open district scholarship and the District authority
scholarship. I also plan on applying to some personal scholarships such as the masonic lodge of
BC and the Yukon Bursary (which provides $500-$800) and the Langley United Soccer
association scholarship ($600-$900). All Langley school district students are able to apply to
over 40 scholarships in Langley, which I plan on doing. My parents also have money stored
away for my schooling so I could use that to help pay for my tuition and other fees. I currently
have a part-time job in retail which I have been saving 10 % of each paycheck towards my
schooling (meaning I have around $500 saved). I plan on working through the next two summers
full-time so hopefully I will be able to earn $1000 towards my first year of schooling at UBC.
