What is Hydrogen?
• Hydrogen is the chemical element with the
symbol H and atomic number 1.
• With a standard atomic weight of 1.008,
hydrogen is the lightest element in the
periodic table.
• Hydrogen is a colorless, tasteless, diatomic gas
with the molecular formula H2.
What is inside a Hydrogen atom?
• The symbol of Hydrogen is H.
• The proton number (atomic no.) inside a
hydrogen atom = 1
• The electron number inside a hydrogen atom
=1
• The neutron number (no net charge) inside a
hydrogen atom = 0
• The mass number = 1
Uses of Hydrogen
• In the chemical industry it is used to make
ammonia for agricultural fertilizer.
• It is also used to remove sulfur from fuels
during the oil-refining process.
• Large quantities of hydrogen are used to
hydrogenate oils to form fats.
