6) A dam spillway is to be tested by using

Froude scaling with 1:30 scale model. The model
has an average velocity of 0.6 m/s and a flow
rate of 0.05 m3/s. What will be the flow velocity
and discharge in prototype? A measured force in
the model is 1.5N, what will be the
corresponding force in the prototype?
Givens are:
Froude scaling is 1:30
Vm=0.6 m/s, Qm=0.05 m3/s
Fm=1.5 N , Qp,Vp, Fp=?
 Vp=(Lp/Lm)0.5 * Vm
Vp=(30)0.5 * 0.6 =3.286 m/s

Discharge scale:
Qp/Qm=(Lp/Lm)5/2
= (30)5/2 * 0.05
= 246.475 m3/s

Force scale:

Fp/Fm= (0.5*rp*hp*Lp2)/
(0.5*rm*hm*Lm2)
, where rp=rm, rp= specific gravity of prototype,
rm = specific gravity of model.

Fp=Fm(Lp/Lm)3
=1.5(30)3
=40500 N.
