Operations on Maintenance Console

 Checking equipment status  Locating faults

 Operation status of modules  Interface tracing
 Operation status of boards  Signaling tracing
 CPU occupations status  Switchover
 Status of CCS7 links  Board resetting
 Status of LAPD links  Module resetting
 Status of circuits
Checking equipment status

 1. Operation status of modules

 Access: [Maintenance/Module State]
 Functions: display the communication state between the
maintenance console and each BM of the BSC
 Results:
 in normal conditions, module numbers will be displayed.
 If the communication is faulty, a * will be placed before the module.
Checking equipment status

 2. Operation status of boards

 Access: [control/Equipment]
 Functions: view and query board state and information, reset
board
 Results :
 in normal conditions, boards on the interface are in grey, green
(active) and blue (standby).
 if the board is faulty, color shown on the panel will change to
red.

Caution: if you find a board is in red, first you should confirm it has been
configured or not, then for GALM in AM you should check whether connected
alarmbox has been powered on.

 Query GCKS
Checking equipment status

 3. CPU occupation status

 Access: [trace/occupation ratio]
 Functions: by viewing CPU occupation ratio, the BSC load
condition (Normal, Overload and Congestion) can be known.
 Results:
 In normal conditions, the occupation status of CPU and memories
should be displayed in the system performance tracing window.
When the bar chart is blue, the status is normal.
 If the bar chart is yellow, the status is overloaded and red,
congested.

 4. Status of CCS7 links

 Access: [SS7 Maintenance/State Query]
 Functions: query the signaling link state, destination state and ro
ute state to ensure the interworking of inter-office SS7
 Interface:
 Module number
 Link number
Check equipment status

 Query input parameters

 Data configuration \ view data configuration work mode
\Module 0 \ Hardware \ [E3M Board property]
Check equipment status

 Results:
 In normal conditions
Check equipment status

 5. Status of LAPD links

 Access: [Control\LAPD Link Maintenance]
 Functions: query LAPD link to check current link state
 Interface:
 Module number
 Start link no, end link no
Check equipment status

 Query input parameters

 Data management\site\[site description table]---OML
Check equipment status

 Query input parameters

 Data management\local-office\[TRX configuration table]---RSL
Check equipment state

 Results:
 In normal conditions, the query result should be multi frame
establish state
 If TEI has not allocate state, the link has not been
configured; If TEI has allocated state, the link has been
configured, but board is not inserted; if off-link state, the
established link is disconnected and system cannot operate
at that time. Or the link is configured and board is inserted,
but they are not connected to the BTS

 6. Circuit status
 Access: [ control\circuit\circuit state]
 Functions: query the state of channel of TC, BIE and PBIE circuits
 Interface:
 Module number
 Circuit type
 Start channel, end channel
Check equipment status

 Results:
 In normal conditions, state should be uninstalled, idle and busy
Locating faults

 1. interface tracing
 Access: [trace\GSM interface trace]
 Functions: trace messages on A-bis, Um and A interfaces in real
time
 interface:
 Interface type
 Module No.
Locating faults

 A interface message trace

 Filter conditions:
 connectionless message, DTAP message, BSSMAP
 SCCP No.
Locating faults

 A interface message trace

 A-bis interface message trace

 Filter conditions:
 BTS number, TRX number, Channel number
 Measurement report, wireless link layer management message, spe
cial channel management message, common channel management
message, TRX management message

 Um interface message trace

 Filter conditions:
 BTS number, TRX number, Channel number
 Radio resource management message, MM mobility management
message, Call control and related Supplementary Services
message, Unrelated Supplementary Service message, SMS short
message

 GSM trace review

Locating faults

 2. signaling tracing
 Access: [SS7 maintenance\SS7 message trace]
 Functions: trace message of a signaling link, capture and save
all or partial message through the signaling link
 Interface:
 Message type
 Filter
 Parameter
 Save to file
Locating faults

 SS7 message trace

Locating faults

 SS7 Trace review

Locating faults

 3. switchover
 Access: [control\immediate switchover]
 Functions: when the active board is faulty or the data of
active/standby boards are inconsistent, if the boards have not
switched over automatically, it is required to switch over the
active and standby boards immediately, making the normal
board use the correct data and ensure the correctness of the
BSC operational data. After the active and standby boards are
switched over immediately, the original standby board will
become the active board while the original active board become
the standby board

 4. board resetting
 Access: [control\equipment]
 Functions: resetting operations are be performed when some
boards are faulty. Resetting results include “successful reset”,
“equipment fault”, ”uninstalled”, “the device can’t be reset” or
“unexecuted”

Caution:
This operation requires the system setup authority. Do not reset a board
unless it is necessary.

 5. module resetting
 Access: [control\hierarchical reset]
 Functions: mainly used to load some modified data that can not
be set online, or as a way of recovery when any problem occurs
during BSC running

Caution:
Hierarchical reset operation requires system setting authority. This operation may
affect system services. Do not perform this operation unless it is necessary.
