What is an “infinitive”?
 An infinitive is: “to” + base form of a verb.
Examples: to run, to sing, to speak, to wash, to cook, to study

What is an “infinitive of purpose”?

An infinitive of purpose is an infinitive that answers the


question “why”?

 I went to the store …. (WHY?) to buy milk.


 I study Spanish … to talk to my friends.
How do you form?

to + verb
in order to + verb
for + V ing,
so that + subject + can/will/could
Examples

Anna works to buy a computer.


Anna works in order to buy a
computer.
Anna works for buying a computer.
Anna works so that she
could/can/will buy a computer.
