Diagnosis of pregnancy

Signs of pregnancy
Possible signs ( presumptive)
• Subjective signs: subjective ,mother can
reported, cant be assessed by examiner
• 1- early breast changes 3-4 weeks.
• 2-amenorrhea 4weeks.
• Morning sickness 4-14 weeks.
• Urinary frequency 6-12 weeks.
• Quickening (fetal movement) 16- 20weeks
Probable signs
• This signs can be documented in intrauterine and
extra uterine pregnancy
• Can be documented by examiner
• Presumptive &probable could occur in
intrauterine & ectopic pregnancy.

• Presence of human chorionic gonadotrophine in


blood 9- 10 days from conception .(pregnancy
test),
• & in urine around 14 days
Probable signs…….

• Softened isthmus . (Hegar signs) .


• Bluing of cervix (a purplish or violet
coloration) (Chadwick sign).
• Changes in skin pigmentation.
• Braxton Hicks contractions 16 weeks.
• Ballottement of the fetus : fetus can be felt to
rise aginst abd. Wall
Positive signs
• Are those signs which can not be mistaken
for any other condition
• Visualization of gestational sac by ultrasound.
• Fetal heart tones.
• Fetal parts palpation.
• Visualization of fetus by X- ray.
• No alternative diagnosis
