Voice – is the quality of a verb that
shows whether the subject is the doer
or receiver of the action
ACTIVE
VOICE
It is used to indicate the doer of the
action. When the subject does or “acts
upon” the verb, the sentence is said to be
in the active voice. These examples
show that the subject is doing the verb’s
actions.
PASSIVE
VOICE
It indicates that the subject receives the
action of the verb, the sentence is said to
be in the passive voice.
These examples show how the
subject-verb relationship has changed..
RULE 1. Present Simple Tense-
Auxiliary verbs used in passive
voice: Is/are/am
1. He (subject) writes (verb) a letter.
A letter is written by
him. (active verb-
gives: passive verb- is
given)
2. The old father (subject) gives (verb)
the money to the boy.
The money is given by the old father to the boy.
(active verb-gives: passive verb- is given)
3. They (subject) sell (verb) books.
Books are sold by them.

4. She helps me.
I am helped by her.
