ส่ วนที่ 1 การใช้ตวั อย่างอ้างอิงในการอนุมานความ

(Using References to make Inferences)
ตัวอ้างอิง References มี 2 ชนิด คือ
1. ตัวอ้างอิงย้อนหลัง (Anaphora)
เป็ นตัวเชื่อมที่สำคัญ ที่นกั เรี ยนจะพบเห็นมากและบ่อย
ที่สุดในบทอ่าน และเป็ นตัวช่วยให้นกั เรี ยนอ่านข้อความภาษาอังกฤษได้
เข้าใจ และสามารถโยง (Refer) ความหมายของตัวอ้างอิงไปยัง คำ กลุ่ม
คำ หรื อประโยคที่กล่าวถึงไปแล้ว การแปลความหมายของตัวอ้างอิง
ชนิดนี้ จะแปลความหมายในตัวเองไม่ได้ ต้องอ้างอิง หรื ออาศัยสิ่ งที่
กล่าวมาแล้ว ตัวอ้างอิงชนิดนี้ ได้แก่
 this, that, these, those, one, there, here, it,

Personal Pronoun และ General Noun

(คือใช้คำนามทัว่ ไปแทนคำนามที่กล่าวมาแล้ว เช่นคำว่า children

แทน boys and girls ที่กล่าวถึงครั้งแรก)

 ตัวอย่ าง
The rhino (rhinoceros) in this picture used to live in the Dusit Zoo in Bangkok.
Unfortunately, as a result of an accident, it died in 1986. Is this important?
Can’t the zoo get another Asian rhino?
แรดที่เห็นในภาพนี้ เคยอยูท่ ี่สวนสัตว์ดุสิต กรุ งเทพฯ แต่โชคร้าย แรด (it)
ตายเมื่อปี 1986 การตายของแรดนี้ (This) สำคัญไหม? และสวนสัตว์จะมีแรด
พันธุ์เอเชียอีกไหม?
จะเห็นว่า it หมายถึง rhino หรื อแรดที่
สวนสัตว์ดุสิต (the rhino in the Dusit Zoo)
ส่ วน this หมายถึง การตายของแรด
(the death of the rhino) ซึ่ งนักเรี ยนจะต้อง
อ่านย้อนหลังขึ้นไปจึงจะรู ้ความหมายของตัว
อ้างอิง (this)
 2. ตัวอ้างอิงถึงสิ่ งที่จะกล่าวถึงข้างหน้า (Catophora)
ความหมายของตัวอ้างอิงชนิดนี้ ดูได้จากสิ่ งหรื อข้อความที่
กล่าวถึงต่อไป ตัวอ้างอิงชนิดนี้ มกั จะไม่ค่อยพบ จะพบตัวอ้างอิงย้อนหลัง
มากกว่า ดังนั้นในการวิเคราะห์ตวั อ้างอิง จึงมักจะพบคำตอบจากการย้อน
กลับไปดูประโยคที่กล่าวมาแล้ว ตัวอ้างอิงชนิดนี้ ได้แก่

คำว่า This ในย่อหน้านี้ หมายถึง ข้อความสองประโยคที่ตามมา
คือ
