R.J. Palacio wrote Wonder after witnessing an incident where her son reacted negatively to a girl with a facial difference. This inspired Palacio to write a story illustrating the importance of kindness and acceptance. The book tells the story of August Pullman, a boy with a severe facial abnormality who enters fifth grade for the first time. Palacio hopes the book will help readers understand the importance of seeing the inner beauty in people rather than judging them based on outward appearances. She includes quotes in the book emphasizing themes of kindness, friendship, and celebrating people's uniqueness.

Palacio wrote Wonder after an incident where her son noticed a girl with a severe facial difference and started to cry. Fearing he would react badly, Palacio attempted to remove her son from the situation so as not to upset the girl and her family but ended up worsening the situation. Natalie Merchant’s song "Wonder" made her realize that the incident could illustrate a valuable lesson. Palacio was inspired by Merchant's lyrics and she began writing. She named the book directly after the song, and used the song's chorus as the prologue of the first chapter. About Author • Raquel Jaramillo (born July 13, 1963), better known by her pen name R.J. Plot Plot Plot My opinion • Well, In my opinion this book is one of the best I have read. There is a lot of action going on in it, it shows that all people must be kind to others, because you don‘t know what can happen to you in the future. Also this book showed me that all people are different, and all of them have their seperate troubles, but friends, family or other close people can help you to solve that problems.
