MAJOR TYPES

OF ECOSYSTEM
ECOSYSTEM
It is a community or group of living
organisms that live in and interact with
each other in a specific environment.
FOREST ECOSYSTEM
 Describes the community of plants, animals, microbes and
all other organisms in interaction with the chemical and
physical features of their environment.
 The organisms involved in a forest ecosystem are
interdependent on one another for survival and can be
broadly classified according to their ecological role as
producers, consumers and decomposers.
FOREST ECOSYSTEM
CLASSIFICATION
TROPICAL RAINFOREST
TEMPERATE FOREST ECOSYSTEM,
AND
BOREAL FOREST ECOSYSTEM
TROPICAL RAINFOREST
ECOSYSTEM
 Can be found in certain equatorial regions in South and Central
America, sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and some islands in
the Caribbean Sea and South Pacific Ocean.
 Tropical rainforest possess a higher diversity of species than any
other kind of ecosystem on the planet.
 Abundant precipitation and year-round warmth produces thick,
flourishing vegetation, with trees growing tall in the competition
for sunlight.
EXAMPLES OF PLANT LIFE
 Mosses
 Ferns
 Vines
 Orchids
 Bromeliads
 Palms
EXAMPLES OF RAINFOREST
ANIMALS
Snakes
Bats
Monkeys
They live in the trees.
Decomposition in tropical rainforest ecosystem
occurs rapidly.
TEMPERATE FOREST
ECOSYSTEMS
In temperate areas of the world, forest ecosystems
are common, and may consist of deciduous trees,
evergreen trees, or a combination.
Can be found in Northeast Asia, the Eastern half of
North America, Western Europe and Central Europe.
