Module Summary

• Classifying packets into different classes is called classification, and


marking packets is important to easily distinguish marked packets.
• The most common classification and marking options at the data link
layer include CoS in the ISL or 802.1Q header and MPLS EXP bits. At
the network layer, packets are typically classified based on source or
destination IP or the ToS byte.
• When packets are encapsulated or encrypted, QoS mechanisms are
unable to examine the original packet header. The QoS preclassify
feature allows you to override this problem.
