Coordination Chemistry in BLOOD
• Iron surrounding by Haem group
• d-d splitting of Fe2+caused by Heam group.
• Absorption of blue green light
• Blood appears RED as its complementary color
• Oxygenated blood cause extra splitting
• So, blood appears brighter shade of red
4

• 750-610       red
• 610-590      orange
• 590-570      yellow
• 570-500      green
• 500-450      blue
• 450-370      violet

Coordination Chemistry in synthetic
detergent
• Hard water contains metals ions of Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe2+

• Phosphate engages the ions of metals in hard water

• It causes the water incapable of disturbing the soap activity.

• Phosphate is inexpensive and easily available to manufacturers.

Coordination Chemistry in Poisons
• Haem group is made up of 4 nitrogen

• Haem group involve in cytochrome activity

• Cyanide is a stronger ligand

• CN disrupts respiratory activity

• As it makes stronger bonds with cytochrome

• Shutdowns cellular respiration

• Avoid exposure to CN groups.
