• Run :- Width of a step as measured between
two successive risers, excluding the nosing.
• Open stringer :- Diagonal piece of wood cut
to fit the steps and risers and supporting the
ends of the steps at the banister.
• Flight of stairs :- Set of steps lying between
two floors, two landings or a floor and a
landing.
• Closed stringer :- Diagonal piece of notched
wood supporting steps and risers and
enclosing their ends.

Rainwater harvesting is the process of collecting, filtering and storing water from roof
tops, paved and unpaved areas for multiple uses. The harvested water can also be used
for potable purposes after testing and treatment, recharging ground water aquifer
through artificial recharge techniques. Rainwater harvesting mechanisms are designed
after assessing the site conditions such as incident rainfall, subsurface strata and their
storage characteristics, infiltration test and by building suitable structures to collect
and store rainwater.
Rainwater harvesting system provides a source of soft, high quality water, reduce
dependence on wells and other sources, and, in many contexts, are cost effective.
Rainwater harvesting system can range in size from a simple PVC tank  to a contractor
designed and built sump - costing thousand of rupees. Rainwater system are inherently

Some solar cells will work better when solar energy is concentrated onto its surface.
Solar collectors use special lenses, mirrors, and mirrored dishes to concentrate sunlight
onto a solar panel. In some cases this means that a smaller sized solar panel can be used
to get more power. One drawback is that collectors must track the sun more exactly
than a solar panel by itself.

Solar heating harnesses the power of the sun to provide solar thermal energy for
solar hot water, solar space heating, and solar pool heaters. A solar heating system
saves energy, reduces utility costs, and produces clean energy.
Solar Heating Basics
Solar Pool Heating
This pool, located in a condominium complex in Oregon, is
heated by solar thermal collectors.
Solar water heaters can be used to heat swimming pools

Solar
Most solar water-heating systems for buildings have two main
parts: (1) a solar collector and (2) a storage tank. The most
common collector used in solar hot water systems is the flat-
plate collector.
Solar Space Heating and Cooling
Just as solar energy can heat the water for a building,
it can also heat and cool the air.
WINDOW :-window is a transparent opening in a wall (or other solid and opaque
surface) that allows the passage of light and, if not closed or sealed, air and sound.
