ARTHROSCOPY
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment procedure used for joint conditions. It’s most
commonly used on the knees, ankles, shoulders, elbows, wrists and hips.
An arthroscopy involves the use of a device called an arthroscope to examine the joints. This is a thin, metal
tube about the length and width of a drinking straw that contains a light source and a camera. Images are sent
from the arthroscope to a video screen or an eyepiece, so the surgeon is able to see inside the joint.

An arthroscopy might be recommended if you

have problems such as persistent joint pain, swelling
or stiffness, and scans have not been able to identify
the cause.
An arthroscopy can also be used to treat a range of
joint problems and conditions. For example, it can be
used to:

o Repair damaged cartilage

o remove fragments of loose bone or cartilage
o drain away any excess fluid
o treat conditions such as arthritis, frozen shoulder or carpal tunnel syndrome

JOINT REPLACEMENT
In a normal joint, bones have a smooth surface made of a
substance called articular cartilage on their ends that allows one
bone to glide easily against another. Joints are lubricated by a
thin layer of fluid (synovial fluid) that acts like oil in an engine
to keep parts gliding smoothly. When the articular cartilage
wears out, is damaged, or the joint fluid is abnormal, problems
develop, and joints often become stiff and painful. This is
arthritis, which may be possible to treat with this procedure.

Minimally Invasive Total Knee Replacement

During minimally invasive total knee replacement, your
surgeon makes an incision to access your shin bone and thigh
bone. Next, he or she removes a portion of the bones that make
up the knee joint. Your surgeon replaces these bone parts with
metal components that recreate the joint surface. A layer of
plastic is placed between the metal components for smooth
gliding.

SPINE SURGERY
The spine is one of the most important organs of the human body. It provides structural support to the human structure and
acts as a conduit to some of the important nerves of our body. The spine is made of smaller bony structures called the
vertebrae and jelly-like discs between them to facilitate flexibility and mobility. When there is any damage or dislocation
to any of these, the doctor may recommend surgery. Spine surgery treatment is a
complex process that involves Orthopaedic and neurological expertise with excellent standards of care.

There are different types of spinal fracture surgery depending upon the cause and nature of pain in the spine. Every
method had its own pros and cons associated with it.

 Spine fusion
 Laminectomy
 Laminotomy
 Laminoplasty
 Foraminotomy
 Discectomy
 Disk replacement
 Minimally invasive spine surgery

PEDIATRIC ORTHOPEDICS
Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeons are specialists who treat musculoskeletal (bone, joint, back, or muscle) problems in
children. Their specialty training is particularly valuable when treating bones that are still growing.
Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeons diagnose and treat a variety of problems with the arms, legs and spine. Problems
walking, crooked limbs, legs of different lengths, curves in the spine, broken bones, bone/joint infections or tumors,
and birth defects of the hands or feet are just some examples of the conditions that may require a pediatric
Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Unlike adults, kids cannot always articulate the pain or discomfort they feel, and it can be challenging even for parents
to determine whether or not there’s a serious issue. An Orthopedic practice that has experts in pediatric care can help
identify the underlying problem and recommend the proper treatment, whether that
means surgery or a nonsurgical method.
Pediatric Orthopedic doctors are skilled in examining
their young patients thoroughly while also
minimizing pain and discomfort.

DEFORMITY CORRECTION
Deformity correction is a procedure to straighten a bone that is bent or twisted in a way that is not normal. After the bone
is straightened, the arm, leg, or foot has normal alignment and function. Deformities can be corrected in two different
ways:

 All at once during a surgical procedure (called acute correction)

 Slowly over the course of several weeks or months (called gradual correction)
 The doctor will choose the best approach for each patient based on his/her unique situation.

During surgery, the doctor makes a cut across the bone to create two separate bone segments. This surgical procedure to
cut a bone is called an osteotomy. Then the doctor will straighten the bone.
After the bone is positioned correctly, the doctor inserts an internal device to keep the bone in the corrected position while
it heals. The internal device
may be an internal nail/rod or a metal plate. Sometimes
additional soft-tissue procedures are done at the
same time to allow the muscles and nerves to
accommodate the correction. After the bone heals,
the internal device may be removed during a second
surgery.
