India Before the Advent of Islam
• Religion: Indian people were divided into different castes according to
their roles.
• Language: Sanskrit was the language of Indians. Lower castes were
not allowed to get education.
• Art and Architecture: Their Architecture was of great quality and was
near to Bhuddhist architecture.
• Politics: india was divided into 600 different states which were ruled
by rajas and Maharajas.
Islamic impact on Hindu society?

• Religion: Concept of the oneness of God and sense of unity was created
by the struggles of Muslim rulers. Caste system was abolished after
their rule.
• Language: The local languages were comprised of Arabic, Persian and
Turkish. By the interaction of these languages Hindi And Urdu emerged.
• Architecture: Islam also made its impact on Hindu temples and their
architecture. The pillars , dome and use of red stone were the
characteristics of Muslim way of construction.
• politics: Muslim rulers governed as strong central power nd created
administrative awareness.
What is bhakti movement?

• The bhakti movement dates from 15th to 17th centuries.


• This movement may be termed as a reform movement in which
Hindus sought ways to be closer to the deities of Hinduism such as
Vishnu , Shiva and Shakti.
• It impacted the lower castes of India who were in despair due to the
policies of Brahmans.
