CONFUCIUS
•The man formally recognized as
Kong Qiu did not change his
name to Confucius. The name
comes from the Latinization of
the name "Kong Fuzi", which
means "Master Kong".
•Confucius was a Chinese
philosopher, politician and
teacher. He is most known for
founding the philosophical
system known as
Confucianism.
• Confucianism, also known as Ruism, is described as
tradition, a philosophy, a religion, a humanistic or
rationalistic religion, a way of governing, or simply a way
of life.[1] Confucianism developed from what was later
called the Hundred Schools of Thought from the teachings
of the Chinese philosopher Confucius (551–479 BCE), who
considered himself a retransmitter of the values of the
Zhou dynasty golden age of several centuries before.[2] In
the Han dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE), Confucian
approaches edged out the "proto-Taoist" Huang-Lao, as
the official ideology while the emperors mixed both with
the realist techniques of Legalism.
• The Greek philosopher Aristotle (384-322 B.C.)
made significant and lasting contributions to nearly
every aspect of human knowledge, from logic to
biology to ethics and aesthetics. Though
overshadowed in classical times by the work of his
teacher Plato, from late antiquity through the
Enlightenment, Aristotle’s surviving writings were
incredibly influential. In Arabic philosophy, he was
known simply as “The First Teacher”; in the West,
he was “The Philosopher.”
PLATO
• Plato (423 BC – 348 BC) was a Classical Greek
philosopher, mathematician, student of Socrates,
writer of philosophical dialogues, and founder of
the Academy in Athens, the first institution of
higher learning in the Western world. Along with
his mentor, Socrates, and his student, Aristotle,
Plato helped to lay the foundations of Western
philosophy and science. Plato influenced a whole
range of subjects from philosophy to maths, logic
and ethics.
