Who is a Materials Manager?
• Materials Manager is a person is responsible for the planning and procurement

of materials, material and information flow, and the management and control of

inventory in achieving the business objectives.

• A materials manager, also known as a purchasing manager, is responsible for planning,

directing or coordinating the process of buying materials, products and services.


Roles & Responsibilities
• Collaborate with other managers to determine supply needs

• Purchase supplies and materials according to specifications

• Implement the company purchasing policies and assist in purchasing policy preparation

• Work with plant engineers and production supervisors to develop specifications for the needed
supplies or equipment.

• Locate vendors that can provide the supplies, machinery or other equipment

• Maintains purchase histories on the vendors and reviews and analyzes vendor performance
periodically
Objectives of a Materials Manager
• To procure raw material at low cost

• To maintain consistent quality

• To ensure continuous supply of raw material

• To minimize the carrying costs and ordering costs

• To maintain a good relationship with supplier

• Efficient record-keeping and prompt reporting

• To develop new sources and new materials

• Training and development of personnel


Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or relevant field or MBA in Operations & SCM

• Solid understanding of supply chain and inventory management systems.

• Knowledge of SAP MM

• Proficiency in MS Excel

• Advanced knowledge of forecasting and budgeting processes.

• Outstanding communication and leadership skills.

• Analytical mind with excellent problem-solving abilities.
