Muna Regency is one of the


Level II Regions located in the
province of Southeast
Sulawesi, Indonesia, with the
capital city in Raha.
Muna Regency was formed in 1959 through Law No. 29 in 1959
consists of North Muna Island and North Buton Island as well as
small islands around it.
Located at south of the equator at
latitudes
4º06 - 5.15° LS and 120.00° – 123.24°
BT.

The majority of the livelihoods of the Muna tribe are fishermen. The native
muna are characterized by dark brown / dark skin color and curly hair. Muna
Regency is rich in unique traditions including Kasambu, Katoba, Karia, Haroa
and others.
Muna Art & Culture
Linda Dance
Linda dance is a traditional dance of the Muna
community. This dance has existed since the time of the
Muna Kingdom in the 16th century AD. This dance is
performed by teenage girls in a series of Muna
community maturity events called Karia. The philosophy
of this dance is that despite insistent temptations, we
must be calm and not be provoked by these temptations.

Muna Weaving (Tenun Muna)


The Muna sarong is a traditional sarong used as martial
arts clothing for the Muna Kingdom. The Muna sarong is
made through two processes, namely the process of
arranging the threads called Hani / Kasoro and the
weaving process to determine the motif on the fabric that
is made. The dye uses natural materials and the thread is
made of silk and cotton. Sarong Muna has 15 various
motifs.

Karia Ceremony
The karia ceremony is an
initiation ceremony
performed for every
woman who enters
adulthood. According to
the understanding of the
Muna community, that a
woman cannot marry if she
has not gone through the
Karia ceremony process. If
they are violated, they will
feel left out and will be
excluded from their

Kasambu
The Kasambu tradition is a
hereditary tradition held by the Katoba
Muna people of Southeast Sulawesi.
This tradition is a form of gratitude
for the safety of a wife who will
give birth to her child. This tradition
is usually held before birth, usually
in the 7th month or the 8th month.
Katoba
Katoba is one of the traditional
Islamic religious ceremonies of the
Muna tribe in Southeast Sulawesi,
Indonesia, for children aged before
puberty (6 to 12 years). In this
traditional ceremony, children are
given some advice by a priest.
