Telling the Time
There are two styles in telling time;
1. American style
2. British style
Time of the Day
a.m. p.m.
Ante Meridiem Post Meridiem
(before midday in Latin) (after midday in Latin)
Midnight to midday Midday to midnight

AM (00.00 – 11.59)
PM (12.00 – 23.59)
American English (AE) Style
• AE use “after, oh and ‘til=until” in expressing times
• AE use a colon to separate “hour” and “minute”

02:15 am 10:40 pm
It’s two fifteen am It’s ten forty pm
It’s two oh fifteen am It’s twenty ‘til eleven pm
It’s fifteen after two am
British English (BE) Style
BE use “past, and to” in expressing

BE use a dot to separate “hour” and “minute”
