Verbal Irony
•Verbal Irony. The speaker intends to be
understood by what he’s trying to say. This
is a good example because he doesn’t mean
what he says.
Sarcasm
•Sarcasm basically saying the opposite of what they
want to see. In this example the person is being
sarcastic while saying they aren’t.
Hyperbole
•Hyperbole is a statement that is exaggerated. For
example, one statement exaggerates people staring at
“them” and the other exaggerates being able to fall
easily.
Understatement

Understatement is a statement that


is dumbed down to being not
important. In this example it is
snowing and freezing outside but
he just says it is a bit cold.
Situational Irony
•Situational Irony this is when the outcome of the
situation is totally different or the subject has
change from the situation to the outcome. This
example shows this by putting a learn to read sign
for people who can’t read. I mean you gotta use
common sense people
