Basics of ISU

Prasad Sampangi
Definition
• ISU – Industrial Solution for Utilities
Deregulated market
• In the regulated market there used to be one to one relationship with
customer and utility company.
• Things have changed since the deregulation, customers are no longer
bound to be with the local supplier.
• This in turn brings up the context of various contractual relationships
with the customer.

•Contract Partner – who has a contract with the utility
company for delivery and purchase of utility services.
•Prospect – who is the target for sales and marketing
team
•Contact person – who is a contract partner of the
utility company.

•Bank details
•General data
Contract Account

Utility Contract
Contract is an agreement between the customer and utility company
for any utility service.
There are several contract categories
Delivery contracts
Delivery contracts for the divisions supported by the company
Purchase contracts
For power producers and other energy feeding contracts.
Service contracts
For maintenance, repairs and other non-energy related contracts
Company consumption contracts
For own office consumption.
Utility Contract
• One contract can be allocated to one contract account only.
• But many contracts could be linked to a contract account to bill
collectively.
• Each contract could be related to only one utility installation at any
time slice.
• Depending on the situation a service could be ended which then would
have move in/move out situation.
Connection Object
• Connection object is generally a building or a site.
• As it is linked with an address other ISU objects such as
premise, installation and device location are related to it.
• Connection object is based on PM module
• In addition to general data industry specific data could be stored in
connection object.

Premise
• Premise is an enclosed spatial unit like an apartment, works unit etc to
which an utility service is provided.
• Premise could have any number of utility installations as there could
be many divisions linked to the same address
• In addition to the address mentioned at the connection object, location
of the premise also can be maintained.

Device Location
• Device location as the same says is a place where the device is located
in a connection object
• These devices need not belong to the same division
• Both the addresses from the connection and premise could be
maintained here
• Exact location of the device could be described and maintained
• Device location is linked to the connection object and hence related to
a functional location.

Utility Installation
• Utility installation is an object referred to when the premise is linked
up with the device and contracts
• Installation contains billing relevant data such as installation fact, rate
category, MRU,division etc.
• Several devices could be installed at an installation and a variety of
relationships could be established (created).
• Data regarding device allocations, register relationship and rate is
stored in the installation structure
• In a time slice there is always a one to one relation between contract
and installation
• MRU allocated would govern the scheduling of meter reading dates.

Point of Delivery
• Point of delivery(POD) is a point at which utility service is supplied.
• A unique number called the point of delivery ID is identified as point
of delivery
• There are two communication system happening at the POD level
– Communication in the deregulated market
This happens between different utility companies when there is a gain or
loss of the customer
– Technical communication
When we receive technical information like meter readings, meter
exchanges etc.

Point of delivery
• There are two types of point of delivery which could be chosen when
creating
- Deregulation point of delivery
Point of delivery is classified as deregulated when the system
needs to communicate with the external industry systems using the POD ID
- Technical point of delivery
Technical point of delivery is required to communicate with the
external systems when the point of delivery is not the common field.

Device Management
• Device is a key component in ISU
• There are several types of devices. For eg: meter converter, data logger
etc.
• Each device would have its own unique number called the device serial
number
• A combination of a device category and device serial number would
form a unique combination
• The meter readings/consumption is recorded against device which is
used for billing
• There are validations happening against each meter read received.
• Depending on the validations the meter reads are stored either
plausible(valid) or implausible(invalid) read.
