Hector’s

Dolphin
By: Emma D
The Hector’s
Dolphin
 The Specific name of the species
is Cepharlorhynchus Hectori .
 The status of this species is
critically endangered.
The importance of this species
• Many species of sharks depend on dolphins for food.
• Help to control the population of many species (herring, turtles, squid,
mackerel, cod, and mollusks) by eating them.
What caused the
decline of the
species?
• They are regularly caught in
gillnets, by fisherman.
What can be done to save this species?
• Reduce the amount of fishing. By doing this it will help to reduce the
amount of dolphins that are being caught. Also, it will help the Hector
Dolphin population to grow and survive.
• Also, you could separate them from other species that can be harmful to
them. By doing this the population can grow without worrying about
being eaten.
What technology
can be used to
save them?
They could put them into an enclosed
habitat. This is very beneficial to any
endangered species. By having them
in enclosed habitats this will allow
them to procreate. After they have
increased their population then they
can be reintroduced into the ocean.
