• Description
A wine conceived in a passionate longing. The aromatic intensity of Rara Neagra impregnates the French nobility of
Cabernet Sauvignon, filling us with love. The ruby wine conquers with warm aromas of currants, violets and cigars,
which pass breathlessly in a fine and long aftertaste.

• Alcohol – 13%

The wine that we are going to review
tonight is quite appealing, it is a wine blend
made of two grape varieties – an
international one and an indigenous one:
Rara Neagra – Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
from Bostavan. This wine is fresh released
on the market and it comes under the ‘Dor‘
wine series, which has a nuanced national
vector.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes
and the wine’s review statistics:
Visual

The wine has a clear

garnet color, it is dense,
but not very opaque,
with the rim-color of a
noble garnet-purple
shade.
Olfactory

The nose is clean and rich with

no signs of wine faults. The first
nose reveals quite nuanced notes
of red fruits: ripe red cherry,
sour cherry, red plum, wolfberry,
redcurrant, cranberry, jostaberry
and pomegranate. The second
nose comes with some charming
notes of a medium roasted wood,
red pepper, wormwood and a
hint of lavender.
Gustatory

The wine is dry, with no signs of residual

sugar and moderate, well integrated
alcohol level. It has moderate acidity and
dry tannin, which makes the wine taste
quite bitter and tannic. This is a bold,
dense, a bit rough and quite muscular
wine, with nuanced spicy notes and a
delicate, maybe just a bit angular, body.
The overall balance is fair, with just a bit
too much sharpness due to the wine’s
young age.
Aftertaste

• The wine has a medium-plus, bitter and a bit tart finish, with a balanced-rough aftertaste, that lasts quite a while – delicate
and woody.

• This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 88.5 points scored it is right there, among
the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you
can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.

• Last but not least, we would like to mention that this wine has been awarded recently a silver medal by Challenge
International du Vin, another silver medal by International Wine & Spirit Competition and a bronze medal by Decanter World
Wine Awards, three of the most prestigious wine tasting competitions. To be honest, this wine style is slowly, but steady,
becoming a trend around here. Blending a well known international grape variety with an indigenous grape variety is quite a
smart move in a kind of win-win strategy: it helps the local variety get some body and structure, while preserving its terroir
intact. We do like the final result and we will keep our eyes open for any new opportunities to taste similar wines, wines with
a bright future, no doubt about it.
