The Present Progressive

Describes actions that are happening

now,are in progress at the moment of
speaking,are unfinished,are not
completed.They could be temporary actions
 Spelling Rules
• When a verb ends in a consonant and e,drop the e and add ing.
take = taking dance = dancing ride = riding use = using
• When a verb ends in one vowel and one consonant,double the
consonant and add ing.
run = running hug = hugging
But,there is an exception to the rule.When a verb ends in w,x,or y,do
not doble these consonants.
play = playing fix = fixing sew = sewing
• When a verb ends in two consonant,do not double the consonant.
drink = driking hold = holding watch = watching jump = jumping
• When a verb ends in ie,Replace it with y
die = dying tie = tying
