Puspa : Pleasure to meet you too. It has been a long time we haven't seen each other. Where have you been?
Tifur : He was complained of feeling severe chest pain and breathless. So we took him to the hospital. And the doctor said that my
father was diagnosed with miocardial infarction.
Lusy : Is he okay?
Lusy : By the way, yesterday we got lecture about acute coronary syndrome. Aren't we?
Diora : Yes Lusy, would you guys mind if i share a little bit information about it?
Tifur : Sure!
Diora : Okay, from the lecture yesterday i heard that ACS is any condition brought by a sudden reduction or blockage
of blood flow to the heart. How about the pathophysiology of ACS, Intan would you like to explain that?
Intan : Sure, acute coronary syndrome usually results from the buildup of fatty deposits (plaques) in and on the walls of
coronary arteries which they’re the blood vessels delivering oxygen and nutrients to heart muscles. When a plaque
deposit ruptures or splits, a blood clot forms. This clot blocks the flow of blood to heart muscles. When the supply of
oxygen to cells is too low, cells of the heart muscles can die. The death of cells resulting in damage to muscle tissues
which it is called as a heart attack (myocardial infarction).
Puspa : And i just curious about the symptoms, anybody want to expalin that?
Lusy : The signs and symptoms of acute coronary syndrome usually begin abruptly. They include: chest pain (angina)
or discomfort, often described as aching, pressure, tightness or burning, pain spreading from the chest to the
shoulders, arms, upper abdomen, back, neck or jaw, and nausea or vomiting.
Diora : Oh that’s right lusy, and another symptoms maybe appear such as shortness of breath (dyspnea),
heavy sweating (diaphoresis), lightheadedness, dizziness or even fainting, unusual or unexplained fatigue, and
feeling restless or apprehensive. Did your dad feeling those symptoms Tifur?
Puspa : Oh ya tifur, i’ve read some literature about ACS which patient with ACS have to stop smoking, eat
healty foods, exercise 2-3 times in a week, and don't get stressed.
