• Upon completion of this SLP, you are expected to:
• explain Health and Fitness related career opportunities;
• perform warm up exercises; and
• strive to be physically fit and healthy.
Aside from personal health, in what other ways can you benefit from being
physically fit?
• Health and Fitness Related Career Opportunities

• A profession in health and fitness is very variable nowadays. Do not let
anything stop you if you love sports and fitness, and feel like you want to
work in this area. In the industry, the existing career prospects are varied
and provide a lot of career paths. In the health and fitness business, these
are the fitness sectors:
• Physical Education – Be a P.E teacher. If you prefer to be engaged in
more activities and games rather than classroom lectures, this career is for
you.
•
• Sports Administration – Work full time in the sports, you can engage in
the management side and be right in the middle of all the action.
•
• Personal Training – Be flexible in your schedule. A personal trainer manages his or her own time
and schedule. You can offer one on one training or group exercise using several sports or exercises
that you have studied.
•
• Coaching – If one point, you feel like experiencing being a competitive athlete or a member of the
varsity team or if you show interest in handling the team of your own, being a coach offers an
exciting path for you
•
• Sports Research – There is always something new in the fitness and health field. Sports research
and development is very dynamic and offers a wide array of areas to work on.
• All careers are exciting and enjoyable, and there is plenty of space for
personal growth. It is unavoidable that if one is engaged in the field of
health and fitness, one will do a little of each career above since they
actually overlap with each other. A sports professional's life is also quite
enjoyable. One can never get bored with each career choice.
• Identify a goal, target, or health issue to address.
• Fitness events usually aim to solve health issues such as weight management or obesity. In order to
prepare for a proper operation, it is necessary to have a goal in mind.
•
• Do your research.
• When having a health concern in mind, do your research and learn the basic terminologies and aspects
of that area. If the concern is the obesity, for example, learn or review about the concept such as eating
habits, health risk factor, BMI (Body Mass Index), the measure of the body fat based on height and
weight.
•
• Look for a Location and Venue.
• You can now prepare for activity in view of your health issue and being familiar with your topic
problem. The location is one of the main physical issues for any physical activity event. Courts,
multipurpose rooms, swimming pools, event halls, or even streets and houses, may be used for
activities and wellness activities.
• Build your team.
• Identify the members of your team. The team leader must delegate tasks for efficiency and economy.
For bigger events, some of the team members may be assigned to be the committee heads. You can
make a general grouping of committees such as venues and logistics committee; food and drinks
committee; promotions and recruitment committee; finance committee and registration committee.
Document.
• It would be fitting to have a record before during, and after event. This
comes in the form of photographs, videos and written documents. Based
on the input from the previous ones, a record and portfolio of the event
will give you a basis for future events.
Warm-Up, Stretching and Cool down
Routine
• In order to avoid injuries and to prepare the muscles and joints for
physical activity, a proper warm up and stretching routine must be
performed prior to exercise. It is important to know that to warm up
means to literally warm the body up with light exercise and movement.
Based on research, it is a good practice to warm up first to increase blood
flow to the muscles, increase sensitivity to nerve receptors.
Types of Warm-Up

• Ballistic Warm up
• This is stretching, or "warming up", by bouncing into (or out of) a
stretched position, using the stretched muscles as a spring which pulls you
out of the stretched position. (Enouncing down repeatedly to touch your
toes.) This type of stretching is not considered useful and can lead to
injury.
Static Warm up

Static stretching involves holding a position for 30 seconds or more to

elongate the muscle while a dynamic warm up involves stretching through a
range of motion. Your body needs to warm up by slowly increasing your
heart rate and breathing rate
Dynamic Stretching
In simple terms, a dynamic warm-up is “moving while you stretch” or
stretching through a joint's full range of motion and preparing muscles for
more intense exercise to come. A dynamic warm-up promotes blood flow,
helps prevent injury and muscle soreness, as well as helps improve overall
performance
I hope you learned a lot from our lesson. I want you to answer the following
questions. Be guided by the criteria for evaluation. Write your answer on the
space provided in each number.
• In this activity, I want you to perform one of the three types of warm up.
You can choose any decent music to accompany your performance. This
will be for 3 minutes, then upload your output in schoology. You may
choose to visit the link below as your guide. Or you may opt to search
other links as guide.
•
• To wrap up everything that you have learned this week, I want you to
create a poster on this theme: Health and Fitness is the Discipline of Life.
