Japan launched surprise attacks on Pearl Harbor without a declaration of war and engaged in the Second Sino-Japanese War, allowing them to expand their colonies across Taiwan, Korea, Southern Sakhalin, Manchuria, and Burma. During their occupation of East and Southeast Asia, Japan established oppressive rule over Korea and Burma.
