Magical birthday
Unlocking the secrets of the born day
Magical Birthday:
A mathematical investigation on significant dates from birth onwards
RATIONALE
The Background
BACKGROUND

 the day of birth of an individual thought to have existed

 the habit of annually honoring their family members, friends and clients with banquets
,prayers, and gifts on the day of their birth
 children’s birthday celebration were acknowledged as a factor helping children to adapt to
biological and social age –related change. The historical evidence leaves no doubt that
ritual play an important role in human life
 a celebration when people from other places, from one place to another to celebrate with
lots of foods
SITUATION
The problem
SITUATION

• The movement of the days of the week, every year and the
years onward is an automatic addition of 1 day (365 ≡ 1 mod
7). However, leap year makes a difference on the pattern 366
≡ 2(mod 7) days because February 28 is the 365th day of a
year. Likewise, the year when a birthday falls on a leap year
or a non-leap year also contribute to its movement.
QUESTION
To be investigated
1. Consider your next few
birthdays.
QUESTION # • From year to year what changes occur
in the day on which your birthday falls?

1
• Does the same thing always happen
from year to year? If not, what causes
any change?
• For non-leap-years, what happens from
one year to the next?
• What happens as you go from a non-
leap year to a non-leap year? From a
non-leap year to a leap year? From a
leap year to a non-leap year?
2. On what day of
QUESTION # the week will your

2
100 birthday
th

fall?

A.On what day were you

born?
3. For which other years
will your birthday fall on
QUESTION # the same day of the

3
week as it does this
year?

A.When will this next happen?

B.After this, when will it occur
again?

Reorganizing, Elaborating and

Summarizing
1. There are seven (7) days a week.
2. There are 365 days a year and 366 days in a
leap year.
3. A leap year happens every 4 years and is
determined when the year is divisible by 4.
SKIRMISHIN 4. The number of year corresponds to the
movement (increase) of the days form your
G birthday EXCEPT in a leap year.
5. There is 1 day increase in 1 year, 2 in 2 years,
3 in 3 years. The pattern does not continue
since in 4 years the increase is 5.

year and difference of 2 from non-leap (one year

QUOD ERAT DEMONSTRATUM

Justification and Expectation
•1.  Given the year and day you were born, we can determine
the day of the week your birthday will fall after years using
conjecture 1 and 2,

(mod7)
where is the desired number of years and is the remainder
when
Justification and Expectation
•2.  Given the year and day you were born, we can find the succeeding
years it will fall on the same day using conjecture 3.

Given as the birthday, the year when it falls on same day can be found
using the sequence
• If then the next year follows the sequence
• If then the next year follows the sequence
• If then the next year follows the sequence
• If then the next year follows the sequence
Extension
• It is strongly suggested to extend this investigation in
determining the day of the week for any date this
century. Is this hold true for other centuries?
• Can this method will produce a quick way in identifying
the day of your birth and your desired years?
• Investigate the method if it is true for other calendars
• Investigate the occurrence of Teacher’s Day
