 Used to + V1
• Used to V1
– Indicating repeated action in the past, not now
– Indicating past situation, not repeated
– Automatically refering to simple past tense
• Example:
– I used to play tennis a lot but now I`m too lazy.
(repeated action)
– We, at the moment, are living in London. However,
we used to live in a small village. (past situation)
 Negative and Interrogative Form
• Jack didn`t use to go out very often until he
met Jill.
• Did you use to eat a lot of sweets?
• What did Martha use to do in her childhood?

• Tom dulunya memang sering jalan-jalan. Sekarangan
ini dia tak terlalu suka bepergian.
• Bangunan ini sekarang menjadi toko perabotan.
Dulunya ini bioskop.
• Apa kau lihat bukit di atas sana? Dulu pernah ada
istana di atasnya.
• Belakangan ini saya mulai mencoba minum kopi. Dulu
aku tak pernah menyukainya.
• Dulunya Ann berambut panjang tapi ia memotongnya
beberapa hari lalu.

• Get used to: Indicating someone who is in the

process of being accustomed to do something.
• Be used to: Indicating someone who has
accustomed to do something.

V1-ing (present participle, verb)

V1-ing (gerund, noun)
In this form, the V1-ing is gerund

Rio used to speak Indonesian when he was at
school. After graduating, he entered college and
took English department as his major. At the first
time, he couldn`t speak English at all, but he
didn`t give up. He studied a lot.
In his third semester, he got used to speaking
English with still many errors. He is now in his
seventh semester and he is used to talking in
English very fluently.

• When I was a child, I used to.....everyday.
• It took me a long time to get used to.....glasses.
• There used to.....a cinema on this corner but it
was no more due to earthquake.
• I`m the boss. I`m not used to.....told what to do.
• You`ll have to get used to.....less if you wanna
lose weight.
• Ron got tired very quickly. He wasn`t used to....
