Summary
 The Breadwinner is a film based on a children’s novel by Deborah ellis
which is centered on the life of a 11 years old girl parvana and her family’s
journey.
 Parvana and her family lived in Afghanistan under Taliban rule when
women were not even allowed to go out without a man.
 Inspite of this rule against women parvana had to come outside to feed her
family when her father was wrongfully arrested by Taliban.
 Parvana and her friend shauzia both dressed up like a boy, then they went
outside to earn money and solved their problem together.
Review
Positive Review:
 Parvana have a poor but happy family. Whatever the situation is they all support each other
always.
 Parvana brought her father back from the prison when he was wrongfully arrested by
Taliban and showed her courage.
 Parvana met with her friend named shauzia in the market place. They both dressed up like
a boy, worked together and solved their problems. They have a real friendship.
Negative Review:
 People tortured women. women have no right of their own. They were not allowed to go
outside without a man.
 Most of the people were illiterate. Parvana used to read and write for people in bazar
because they were uneducated.
 Parvana and her friend worked for a man but that man betrayed with them. He didn’t pay
their money.

The animation beautifully brings to life the landscape and culture of Kabul, from the bustling
bazaar scenes to the vistas of distant mountains.

The soft shooting background score by composer brothers Mychael and jeff danna aptly
highlights the many moods of the film.

The children in this animated film based on a novel by Deborah ellis navigate life under the
Taliban.
Why the movie is binge worthy?
 Though the breadwinner is an animation film but it also an educational
movie. I recommend this movie to young boys and girls so that they
can learn good lesson from this movie like:
i. Always be brave like parvana.
ii. Don’t be afraid when danger comes to you like parvana’s mother.
iii. Real friend will always be their for you.
