The orbital process is variable in size and forms a small part of
the floor of the orbit and the inferior orbital fissure. 
Maxilla
The alveolar bone proper merges
with the cortical bone of the process
to form the alveolar crest at the
coronal border of the socket. In a
healthy individual, the alveolar crest
is generally 1–2 mm below the
cement-enamel junction (CEJ) of the
tooth. It becomes a thin margin of
bone adjacent to the tooth.
