The Book of Exodus
Introduction
The book of Exodus is about God's great deliverance of
Israel from Egypt and His meeting with them at Mt.
Sinai. The book shows how God Redeemed the
Children of Israel from the hands of slavery . Gave
them the law in order to ensure that his people would
be set apart from the world.
Facts:
Date: 1526-1446 B.C.
Author : Moses
The Second Book of the Bible.
Definition: 1. A going out; particularly (the Exodus),
the going out or journey of the Israelites from Egypt
under the conduct of Moses; and hence, any large
migration from a place. [1913 Webster] Derived from
the Greek.
Known in Hebrew as Shemot ("Names") from the
words of the opening sentence.

The Book of Exodus can be divided into Three
Divisions
The Redemption from Egypt Chapters 1-19
The Giving of the Law Chapters 20-31 (moral &
instructions for the tabernacle & clothing) 
The People's Response Chapters 32-40 (initially
bad,then good)

Progressive mistreatment of the Hebrew slaves (1:1-22)
 The tribes of Israel identified (1:1-7)

10 Plagues versus the 10 gods
1 Nile and other waters turned to blood. Nile-god Hapi was
totally disgraced
2 Frogs. Frog-goddess , or fretility godess, Heqt, was
powerless to prevent it
3 Dust turned to gnats. Thoth, lord of magic, with the
Egyptian magicians,was helpless to stop it
4 Gadflies over all Egypt except Goshen where Israel dwelt.
No god was able to prevent it-not even Ptah, Egypt's creator
of the universe.
5 Pestilence on livestock. The sacred cow-goddess Hathor
nor Apis the bull could prevent this plague
10 Plagues versus the 10 gods
6 Boils. Healer deities Thoth, Isis, and Ptah were rendered
helpless.
7 Thunder and hail. Exposed the impotence of Reshpu,and
Thoth, gods of rain and lightening and thunder
8 Locusts. This was a blow to protector of crops ,the fertility-
god Min.
9 Three days of darkness. Ra, the preeminent sun-god, and
Horus,a sun- god, disgraced
10 Death of the firstborn including Pharaoh's, who was
considered to be a god incarnate. Ra (Amon-Ra), sun-god
represented as a ram, was unable to stop it nor to save himself.

Israel redeemed by the blood of a lamb -- Passover. (12:1-13:16)

 Slaughter; sprinkle blood on horns and in front of veil

B. Bronze Laver – Ex. 30:17-21; made from metal used for mirrors (38:8);
reflection of self; water to cleanse; water a symbol of Spirit (Is. 44:3)

In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the
darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There came a man
sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to testify
about the Light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the
Light, but he came to testify about the Light. There was the true Light
which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.
