Form of
Nouns
1. Most nouns form their plural by adding –
s.
Examples:
miracle – miracles
house – houses
2. Nouns ending in s, x, z and ch form
their plural by adding s or ed
examples: mass- masses
3. Nouns ending in y preceded by a
consonant is changed in -i and add
-es.
Example: family- families
country- countries
4. nouns ending in y preceded by a vowel
form their plural by adding –s.
Example: valley- valleys
5. Nouns ending in F form their plural by
changing f to v and add –es.
Examples: elf- elves wolf- wolves

6. nouns ending in o and preceded by a


consonant form their plural by adding
–es.
Examples: hero-heroes potato-potatoes
A singular noun used as a subject needs
singular verb.
Example: Grandfather is sad.
He feels sorry.

A plural noun needs a plural verb.


Example: Father and I are eating.
