COMPRESSED

AIR
INTRODUCTION
 Qualification of compressed air intends to verify the
distribution piping is clean and free of oil and contains
acceptable levels of other impurities/contaminants.
Compressed gas system qualification typically involves a
minimum of three days of sampling and testing at
specified sampling locations.
CQA
 Moisture Content
Water content in the compressed air, to prevent a corrosion formed in the
equipment.
 Non Viable Particle
Related to the cleanliness of the non viable particle of the compressed air.
 Total Hydrocarbon
The compressor, when lubricated with oil, releases oil in the form of liquid,
aerosol or vapor.
 Viable Particle
Related to the cleanliness of the viable particle of the compressed air .
ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
LOCATION OF COMPRESSED AIR IN BPI
MOISTURE CONTENT
 Moisture in compressed air usually measure as either
dew point or pressure dew point.
 The dew point temperature can be defined as the
temperature at which water vapor begins to condense.
Measuring the dew point temperature of a gas is a direct
measurement of the partial pressure of water vapor.
MOISTURE CONTENT – 2
 Flush the compressed air for at least one minute
 Measure the moisture content using dew point meter
NON-VIABLE & VIABLE PARTICLE
 The quality of non-viable and viable particles of compressed air
follows the criticality of the products or the process.
 Using high pressure diffuser to reduce the pressure of compressed
air prior connecting the sampling point to particle counter or air
sampler.
NON-VIABLE & VIABLE PARTICLE – 2
TOTAL HYDROCARBON
 Total hydrocarbon includes both oil aerosols and oil
vapors, which are detected differently. Both types are
typically associated with oils introduced as part of a
compressed air system as oils are typically not present in
cylinder based systems. The selection of a sampling
method is depending on the anticipated level of oil
expected from the point being sampled as well as
whether the oil would be present as an aerosol or vapor
TOTAL HYDROCARBON – 2
 Prepare oil tubes
 Flush the compressed air

 Determine oil content on compressed air using oil tube
