To understand a text better, you should be able to identify the
components of a story such as the beginning, the middle, and
the end of the story.

You should also be able to retell the events within a given


text in the order in which they occurred.

The ordering of events in a story is usually indicated by th


e following example words

• once upon a time • in the end


• then • before
• later • after
• afterwards • previously
• and • etc.
Example
The sequence of the events:

“He left the house at 10 o'clock in 1. left the house

the morning before catching a
You can tell that event 1 happened earlier and

sequence “before”.
